HACCP is a system that identifies hazards in food and controls them at critical control points. In the EU, food business operators put in place and implement a permanent procedure based on HACCP principles. In the US, food facilities registered with FDA keep a written food safety plan; in Canada, SFC license holders keep a written preventive control plan. BRCGS is not an official regulation; it is a private food safety standard that buyers may require from their suppliers.

Who Is Obligated?

Manufacturers exporting food to the US, Canada, the EU or the UK, and companies whose buyers require BRCGS.

Frequently Asked Questions

In which markets is a HACCP plan mandatory?
In the EU, food business operators put in place and implement a permanent procedure based on HACCP principles. In the US, food facilities registered with FDA keep a written food safety plan; in Canada, SFC license holders keep a written preventive control plan. For exports to the UK, we also assess the plan against the target market’s rules.
Is BRCGS mandatory?
No, BRCGS is not an official regulation. It is a private food safety standard that buyers may require from their suppliers; if your buyer requires it, we organize your document set in preparation for the audit.
Do you issue the certificate?
No. We prepare the HACCP plan and related procedures and organize the document set in preparation for a BRCGS audit. The audit and certification are outside the work we do.
We already have a HACCP plan. Will it be rewritten?
We first assess your existing documents against the rules of the target markets. From that we produce a list of gaps and improvements and, where needed, adapt the plan to market-specific documents such as the US food safety plan or the Canadian preventive control plan.
